Amish Deer Tongue Lettuce is a historic heirloom variety dating back to the 1840s, prized for its unique triangular, pointed leaves that resemble a deer’s tongue. The leaves are medium to dark green, tender, and crisp with a mildly nutty, sweet flavor. This loose-leaf type forms upright rosettes rather than tight heads and is excellent for salads and fresh use. It is slow to bolt, making it ideal for extended harvests in spring and fall. Amish Deer Tongue matures in about 45–55 days, thrives in full sun to partial shade, and tolerates heat better than many lettuces. Perfect for home gardens and container growing.
